Rap 151/515 Alcohol

Rap 151

It is a tradition at Rainbow family gatherings to strongly discourage alcohol use. Even the appearance of alcohol can be triggering, or create unwanted exposure or enticement. Please leave any alcoholic beverages outside the Gathering, and please do not bring alcohol past the parking area(s).

We, especially our children, need a safe and peaceful environment in which to celebrate. We acknowledge a person’s right to drink in private, but the person must respect the rights of others to gather in an alcohol-free environment.

The gathering is a sanctuary for prayer, healing, and peaceable assembly, not a festival.  Please respect this sacred space by honoring this tradition and do not bring alcohol into the woods.

If you need support with your sobriety, fellow gatherers can help you. Sober camps – historically including BrewHaha Tea House, SereniTea Ridge and others (ask at Info) – offer resources for support in recovery and healing.

Be whole, be healthy, be your true self at Rainbow.

Rap 515

If you are uncomfortable with people consuming alcohol, it will not help to challenge the behavior.

If an intoxicated person harasses you or violates your personal space, avoid responding with aggression.

Try to de-escalate and relocate if possible. Only call out “shanti sena” if the situation is escalating beyond control or becomes dangerous.

Panhandling isn’t necessary at a gathering. If you are harassed or panhandled when coming into the gathering, say no and keep moving -  if the person has a legitimate problem, help them if you want, or tell them to look to others for help.

Many family have had issues with intoxicants in the past. Treat all with love and allow for the possibility of healing.

Comments

  1. Cigarette smoking can cause wildfires if not careful. These gatherings make many people nervous.

Vision Council Consensus

We, the Rainbow Family of Living Light, peacefully assembled as Vision Counsel, in the Mark Twain National Forest on the land, at the site of the 54th Annual Rainbow Gathering, in 2025, have lovingly reached consensus on the following:    We invite all beings to cocreate the 55th Annual Rainbow Gathering from July 1-7, 2026, and to participate in a silent prayer and meditation for peace from dawn until noon on the fourth day of July, in a national forest in the lands currently known as Pennsylvania or New York.    We lovingly invite all Indigenous and Native peoples of Turtle Island to join us in love and peace and solidarity. We recognize that all lands in this region are traditional Indigenous lands, and we invite your guidance to respect these sacred lands in a good way.    We gratefully acknowledge the indispensable aid of veterans of foreign wars in visioning and creating the Rainbow Gathering we cherish today. We invite all veterans to join us...
